Hong Kong's Industrial Evolution Showcased at Science Museum

The exhibition "Innovative Pathway: Hong Kong's New Era of Industry", jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and FHKI, and funded by the Innovation Technology Fund of the Innovation and Technology Commission, was officially inaugurated today. The exhibition showcases the city's industrial transformation from traditional manufacturing to a future driven by innovation, technology, and design, and will run until July 2, 2025.

The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Manda Chan and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Science Museum Lawrence Lee were Guests of Honour at the opening ceremony today (11 April), which was preceded by a media preview tour.

The FHKI has been committed to promoting the development of industry and commerce in Hong Kong for 65 years. FHKI Chairman Steve Chuang highlighted Hong Kong's rich industrial history and its current transition to a technology-focused model emphasising research, design, and branding. He expressed his honour in participating in the exhibition's creation and opening, stating, "Hong Kong's industry has moved beyond traditional manufacturing, advancing towards a new industrial development model focusing on technology, R&D, design, and branding. This exhibition allows the public to experience this evolution, demonstrating Hong Kong's strength and potential amidst global technological advancements. We must work together – government, industry, academia, research and investment sectors – to drive this new industrialisation and create more opportunities."

The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Manda Chan added that each innovation achievement in this exhibition is the evidence to the new era of the Hong Kong industry, telling a "Hong Kong story", stating “With advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and robotics, the Hong Kong industry achieves breakthroughs in environmental technologies that convert waste into energy, cutting-edge applications in smart manufacturing and life sciences, and redefines the term of ‘Made in Hong Kong’.”

The exhibition comprises of five sections, namely "Industry Cornerstone”, “Research and Development”, “Smart Manufacturing”, “Industry 4.0” and “2030 Vision”. Showcasing a collection of Industrial equipment, products, videos, and production demonstrations, the exhibition vividly illustrates the connection between Hong Kong's industries and the lives of its citizens. It aims to enhance public understanding and interest in industry and innovation, while also inspiring innovative thinking among children and young people and promoting STEM education. Some sections feature displays of smart production systems and life and health technology products, demonstrating Hong Kong's transformation from traditional manufacturing to a focus on smart production, innovation, and high-end industries, and encouraging visitors to consider the future direction of Hong Kong's industrial landscape.

The " Innovative Pathway: Hong Kong's New Era of Industry" exhibition is funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund's General Support Program. It will run from 11 April 2025 to 2 July 2025, and there is no additional charge for visitors to the permanent exhibition.
