FHKI and HKSTP Co-organise “Innopreneur Experience Journey” Cohort 4
Cultivating a New Generation of Industrial Professionals

Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) jointly organise the fourth cohort of “Innopreneur Experience Journey”. Having officially embarked today (18 July), the programme has been generously sponsored for the fourth consecutive year by Sino Group and the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation. It is delivered in partnership with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Tsuen Wan Centre, the Po Leung Kuk Life Planning and Financial Education Centre, and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. The programme will offer over 50 students with an interest in innovation and technology a series of enriching activities, including site visits and work experience. The initiative aims to give students early exposure to the industrial and innovation sectors, stimulating their interest and preparing them for their future careers.

The opening ceremony was held at the Sino InnoLab in Yuen Long. Dr Steve Chuang, Chairman of FHKI; and Dr Carmen Fung, Director, Advanced Manufacturing & MicroElectronics of HKSTP; and representatives from participating companies officially kicked off the journey for over 50 students.

In his opening speech, FHKI Chairman Dr Steve Chuang emphasised that Hong Kong’s industrial sector is undergoing a significant transformation, playing a key role in the local economy and holding immense potential for growth. He remarked, “in the era of Industry 4.0, innovative technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become indispensable to the industrial production process. Hong Kong brings together exceptional research talents, creative designers, and professionals providing expert support services, who collectively form the cornerstone of our industrial development together. We hope this experience journey will provide students with a deeper understanding of the competitive advantages and innovative achievements of Hong Kong’s industry across various fields, igniting their passion for industrial innovation and technology.”

Fanny Wong, Chief Talent Officer of HKSTP, expressed that the event aims to enhance the young generation's interest in innovation and entrepreneurship: “We are pleased to collaborate once again with FHKI, providing students with the opportunity to explore the possibilities within Hong Kong's I&T ecosystem and learn about the latest industrial developments. This will help broaden their technological perspectives and inspire creative ideas. Talent is a crucial element in driving the development of I&T. Over the past 20 years, HKSTP has built a thriving innovation community dedicated to nurturing local students while attracting innovation talent from around the world. We will actively collaborate with various organisations to reinforce Hong Kong's vision of becoming an international innovation and technology hub.”

Two of last year's "Star Student Award" winners were also specially invited to the opening ceremony to share their experiences. Following their outstanding performance in last year's “Innopreneur Experience Journey”, they won a five-day, four-night work experience trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The trip, with flights and accommodation sponsored by Golden Resources Development International Ltd, provided a rich itinerary. During their stay, the students visited Circle K to learn about its business development and delivery operations and to exchange insights with company representatives. They also received professional briefings and hands-on work experience at Starbucks, in addition to visiting local cultural attractions. The trip was completed earlier this month.

Following the ceremony, the students and company representatives visited the Sino InnoLab for an immersive experience with technologies such as VR CAVE and AI. Sino Group established Sino Inno Lab in 2018 as a sandbox platform for local and overseas start-ups, inventors and technology companies to test out their solutions. In 2024, Sino Inno Lab relocated to One North in the heart of the Northern Metropolis, where it continues to serve as a dynamic sandbox platform to showcase proof-of-concept developments and facilitate co-creations. It currently features more than 40 inventions, covering solutions in artificial intelligence, robotics, Medtech and PropTech applications.

This year's Innopreneur Experience will run for one month. In addition to visits, students will undertake hands-on work experience at 19 FHKI member companies and HKSTP partner companies under the guidance of corporate mentors. At the closing ceremony, scheduled for 27 August, students will compete for the prestigious “Star Student Award” by sharing details of their experiences. Outstanding participants will have the chance to win prizes valued at nearly HK$8,000.
