FHKI presents 2022 Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong and Industrialist of the Year Award
Prestigious Honour conferred on Vita Green’s Dr Helen Chan and Luen Thai’s Dr Tan Siu-lin
Organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (“FHKI”), the 2022 Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong (“YIAH”) and Industrialist of the Year Award (“IOY”) Presentation Ceremony concluded successfully today (3 November). Mr John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government served as the Guest-of-Honour, to officiate the Ceremony. The 2022 IOY were conferred on Dr Helen Chan Hei-ling, Chief Executive Officer of Vita Green Health Products Company Limited, and Dr Tan Siu-lin, Founder and Chairman of Luen Thai Group. Six outstanding young industrialists were awarded the 2022 YIAH, including: Dr Ricky Chiu Yin-yo, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of PHASE Scientific International Limited; Mr Eric Kwong Hoi-fung, Managing Director of AluHouse International Trading Company Limited; Mr Nicholas Lai Yui-man, General Manager (Southern China) of Pro-Technic Machinery Ltd; Mr Will Lam Gee-yu, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of High Fashion International Limited; Mr Evan Tse-Siu-ngan, Chief Executive Officer of United Creation Optical Company Ltd; and Mr Rex Wong Siu-han, Chief Executive Officer of Kum Shing Group Limited. The awardees come from a diverse background including textile, silk, biotechnology, health and medical, construction, robotics, glasses manufacturing and energy infrastructure.
As a flagship programme of FHKI, YIAH and IOY are known as “The Oscars” in the local industrial sector. Over the years, 22 IOY and 251 YIAH have been awarded for their outstanding achievements. FHKI Chairman Dr Sunny Chai congratulated all awardees in his opening remarks; he said, “The winners stand out from the crowd not only because of the market and consumers’ acknowledgement on their products and technology, but also their commitment on industrial upgrade and transformation. Through investment in I&T and introduction of smart manufacturing, they help propel re-industrialisation and sustainable development so that the enterprises can rise to the challenges of the epidemic and global competition to maintain leading positions with the strength of ‘Made by Hong Kong’ products.”
Chief Executive Mr John Lee said, “I would like to thank FHKI for cooperating with the HKSAR Government in propelling re-industrialisation and encourage industrialists, especially the young ones, to continue to actively promote industrial innovation and smart manufacturing. Hong Kong industrialists have strong business acumen, good management skills, wide international connections, and the passion and foresight about industries. I believe Hong Kong will achieve the vision of re-industrialisation, bringing Hong Kong economy to upgrade and transform.”
The 2022 IOY go to Dr Helen Chan Hei-ling, Chief Executive Officer of Vita Green Health Products Company Limited and Dr Tan Siu-lin, Founder and Chairman of Luen Thai Group, after the diligent assessment by the judging panel. Dr Helen Chan founded Vita Green, a leading household name in Hong Kong. As a registered doctor, she studied further on Lingzhi and Chinese medicine. “Everyone can live to 120 years old healthily, happily, with dignity” is the vision Dr Chan has for Vita Green. Using her knowledge in both Western and Chinese medicine, Dr Chan developed various supplements with natural ingredients. In recent years, Vita Green was leading the industry to embrace re-industrialisation, setting up smart production line for tea capsules in Hong Kong, enhancing products’ quality and efficiency. Another IOY awardee Dr Tan, with his persistence and perseverance, has become a rags-to-riches success story in which he transformed Luen Thai Shipping and Trading Company into Luen Thai Holdings Ltd that provides manufacturing and supply chain services for scores of international brands of clothing and luxury bags. He is also a prestigious philanthropist with strong commitment to local education.

About Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong and Industrialist of the Year Award
Launched in 1988 by FHKI, Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong give public recognition to young industrialists, aged between 21 and 45, who have attained outstanding achievements in their fields of industry. Through the Awards, FHKI aims to inspire young people to build a career in industrial sectors so as to continue the sterling work of veteran industrialists. Since its inception, a total of 251 industrialists have received the Award.
The Industrialist of the Year Award was launched in 2002 where nominations are open to all industrialists. This Award is conferred on industrialists each year for their distinguished contributions to Hong Kong’s industries, economy and community, and nomination is open to industrialists of all ages. The winner shall be a role model with passing-the-torch and forward-thinking spirit for modern industrialists.
The Awards are known for its strict and thorough judging process. Each year, the panel consists of renowned leaders from the Government, academia and industry. The panel interviews each shortlisted candidate in person to give fair and balanced assessments to his/her achievements and contributions to ensure the Awards are conferred on the best candidates.

- Dr Ricky Chiu Yin-yo
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, PHASE Scientific international Limited
A rarity in the biotech field, Dr Chiu believes that for technologies to change the world, they must be used and commercialised to benefit the entire global community. He developed a proprietary sample preparation technology while pursuing his PhD in bio-engineering in the United States, which can concentrate target molecules by 10 to 100 times, making diagnostic tests easier, accessible, faster, more accurate and affordable. During COVID-19 epidemic, he led his team at PHASE Scientific to create a series of high accuracy diagnostic products, including the INDICAID COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test, first product of its kind in the Greater China region to obtain the US FDA emergency use authorisation. The product also received global recognition from the world’s leading regulatory institutions. The “Made by Hong Kong” diagnostic tests have been exported to more than 30 countries.

Managing Director, AluHouse International Trading Company Limited
In 2014, Mr Eric Kwong established AluHouse Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong and set up a manufacturing base in Zhaoqing. AluHouse very quickly became an integral part of the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) manufacturing industry and succeeded as one of the top suppliers of MiC components in the Hong Kong market. In just seven years, he led the company to expand from a MiC business segment focusing only on low-rise aluminium structures to become the first diversified business company in the Greater Bay Area with a large-scale production capacity that incorporates three different materials for its MiC structures. Their products were adopted in dozens of projects such as Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Community Isolation Centre, as well as the Hong Kong’s largest transitional housing projects at Kong Ha Wai, Luen Yan Street, Tsuen Wan etc. The company also has projects in the Greater Bay Area with six long-span all-aluminium alloy pedestrian bridges in cities such as Zhuhai, Zhaoqing, and Foshan. - Mr Nicholas Lai Yui-man
General Manager (Southern China), Pro-Technic Machinery Ltd
Pro-Technic Machinery Limited was established in 1977 and served the industrial sector in Hong Kong and the Mainland for 45 years. As a major machine distributor and integrated equipment manufacturer in China, the company introduces world-class sophisticated machines, advanced technology and provide pre and post sales services. Under Mr Lai’s leadership, Pro-Technic’s automation and smart manufacturing businesses have flourished to new heights. He facilitated the company’s development and adoption of PTApp, a real time sales and services management tool that greatly enhances efficiency; and PTMES, a software visualising real time production status of factory machinery. The company is developing a vision system that utilises AI technologies to detect surface defects on die-casting workpieces, greatly improving the overall accuracy and efficiency of the inspection process that is traditionally manual. Mr Lai is also an adviser of CareHK Limited, a manufacturer of surgical face masks in Hong Kong. Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, High Fashion International Limited
Under the leadership of Mr Will Lam, High Fashion International Limited is the global leader in silk manufacturing. The Group has been pushing for digital transformation of the garment industry, with sustainability and environmental protection at the centre of the evolution. In these ten years, High Fashion has supported the research and development of new material and substituted traditional ones with innovative and sustainable products, cutting carbon emission by 50%. The Group also advocates the technological enhancement and digitalisation in supply chain management. Since 2019, High Fashion has invested in the construction of smart factories, and has been recognised as the “Zhejiang Province Smart Factory (Digital Workshop)” and “The Future Factory Digital Workshop in Hangzhou”. The Group also established High Fashion Womenswear Institute to cultivate a new generation of talents for the industry. Chief Executive Officer, United Creation Optical Company Ltd
Mr Evan Tse joined United Creation Optical Company Ltd since its establishment in 2001, involving in product development, product design, brand building and corporate management. His efforts have led the company to develop from a Hong Kong funded small enterprise to an international group operating across Hong Kong and the Mainland. The business model has grown from Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) to Own Design Manufacturing (ODM), expanding to operating authorised brand product wholesale, creating own brand products wholesale and retail industries. It is the first optical frame manufacturer in the Mainland to obtain the “ISCC PLUS” certification. In additional, the company takes biobased and biodegraded acetate for eyewear. The company has been exclusively authorised to distribute Evisu frames in Southeast Asia, and established its own brand “TiDOU”, focusing on brand building, design, product development, manufacturing and global distribution. Mr Tse’s achievement and had work in serving the industry has been widely recognised. Chief Executive Officer, Kum Shing Group Limited
Kum Shing Group Limited is a leading energy and infrastructure specialist company. Before joining the family business, Mr Rex Wong is an architect, which has laid a solid foundation for his success. Joining the company 15 years ago, Rex has been devoting himself in corporate management, focusing on great quality management. In 2013, under his leadership, Kum Shing was honoured by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) with a top prize of quality award. It is among the most prestigious accolades in professional management and an unprecedented recognition for a company in the infrastructure sector. He leads the company to engage with various charity works. For example, Kum Shing has been an official engineering consultant for the events organised by charities such as Oxfam. The company also played a key role in restoring normality for thousands of Hong Kong residents after the damages caused by Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018.

Dr Helen Chan established Vita Green business in 1993, from selling two products, Lingzhi for adults and children only, to 150 products to date. “Everyone can live to 120 years old healthily, happily, with dignity” is the vision Dr Chan has for Vita Green. Today, the Vita Green brand has become a leading household name in Hong Kong, and has playing a leading position among health supplement brands with market reach to Asia, Europe and United States. Dr Helen Chen, a western medicine practitioner, also studied Chinese medicine practice and Chinese medicines and obtain relevant qualification to better use Chinese medicine and apply the knowledge in pharmaceutical processes and protocols. Using her knowledge in both Western and Chinese medicine, Dr Chan developed various supplements with natural ingredients to encourage the public to take their health into their own hands. - Dr Tan Siu-lin
Founder and Chairman, Luen Thai Group
Dr Tan Siu-lin established Luen Thai Shipping and Trading Company in 1965. After a half century of persistence and perseverance and upholding his motto of “Integrity, Trustworthiness, Diligence and Dedication”, he transformed the shipping and trading firm into a cross-border and cross-industry business conglomerate. Luen Thai Holdings Ltd, a Hong Kong-listed company, provides manufacturing and supply chain services for scores of international brands of clothing and luxury bags, with over 40,000 employees and around USD 1 billion in annual revenue. The Group is one of the leading garment manufacturers and ranks second globally in luxury bag manufacturing. Dr Tan is keen on applying I&T to inject new impetus to traditional industries. He introduced Skechers, a leading international footwear brand, to the Mainland’s market and the group has a joint venture with famous Chinese sports brand ANTA to expand into Southeast Asia market to help Chinese brands “go global”. Social service is Dr Tan’s life-long passion. His charity foundation has established many scholarships in Mainland and Hong Kong universities, especially in student exchange programmes.
