The Mission to Shenzhen and Hainan, jointly organised by FHKI Group 26 (Environmental Industries Council) and the Hong Kong Waste Management Association (HKWMA), and sponsored by China CITIC Bank International Limited, was successfully held from 11 to 13 June. The delegation was led by Mr Jude Chow, Executive Deputy Chairman of FHKI and Chairman of Group 26; Mr Andy Chan, President of the HKWMA; Ms Shirley Kwok, Vice Chairman of FHKI Group 26; and Mr Kenny Lok, Vice President of the HKWMA.
The tour commenced in Shenzhen, where participants visited the Yulong Domestic Waste Landfill and Xiaping Environmental Park. These visits provided valuable insights into advanced technologies such as solid waste sorting and resource recovery, as well as integrated deodorisation systems, enhancing participants’ understanding of sustainable urban development.
The delegation then travelled to Hainan and attended a welcome dinner, fostering in-depth exchanges among industry participants and exploring opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.
On the following day, the group visited the ALBA Hainan Organic Waste Utilization Centre to observe advanced practices in waste treatment and resource recovery. In the afternoon, the delegation called on the Hainan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hainan Provincial Committee, where discussions focused on leveraging Hong Kong’s strengths as an international financial and trading hub to integrate Hainan–Hong Kong resources and jointly expand into overseas green markets.
On the final day, the delegation visited the Jiangdong New Area Water Purification Centre in Haikou, gaining a deeper understanding of underground wastewater treatment technologies and local ecological development achievements. Participants also shared their reflections in a relaxed setting, bringing the fruitful three-day study tour to a successful close.
